Adoption Process

Before filling out an adoption application, be sure the timing is right for you. Once approved, the process usually moves quickly (often less than a few days), and we cannot hold kitties for adopters. For more info please review the FAQs.

1) Fill out an adoption application.

This is a required first step. Because we are foster-based, the adoption application gives us an idea if you are a match for the kitty. It does not obligate you to adopt them. We do not track special requests. If you have a specific breed you're looking for, please sign up for our enews (below) or follow us on social media to keep an eye on our cats/kittens as they come into rescue. Kittens must be adopted in pairs or to homes that already have another young cat. No exceptions.

Please note: the application may not work on a mobile device. Use a desktop browser for the easiest experience.

2) If the cat/kitten you want to adopt is available, and we think you're a good match, we'll reach out to you to set up a meet and greet.

This will typically happen within 24 hours. If you haven't heard from us after 2 days, please check your spam folder, and email us at info@denverkittens.org.

3) The in-person meet and greet in the foster home is usually scheduled within 1-3 days.

Setting up a meet-and-greet does not put a "hold" on a kitty. They are considered adoptable until the adoption fee is paid.

4) If it's a match, the adoption is finalized by signing an adoption contract and paying the adoption fee.

All fosters need to be spayed/neutered before going home, so, especially for kittens, you may need to wait a few days or a few weeks, depending on where they're at in that process. Once the pet is ready to go home, please be prepared to pick it up within 24 hours.

5) Pickup will be scheduled.

Kitty must be picked up within 24 hours of finalized adoption.
